“This Is The Way”: 5 Questions Halfway Through “The Mandalorian,” Season Two

We’re now four episodes into the eight-episode sophomore season of The Mandalorian. The Emmy Award-winning series returned last month to continue the adventures of Mandalorian Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and The Child (AKA “Baby Yoda”), as they travel the galaxy searching for the latter’s homeworld and species.

With half of the season under our belt, here are five questions I have so far—both for the season and the series as a whole.

Warning: This contains spoilers for Chapters 9-12 of The Mandalorian.

1) Is Bo-Katan a Red Herring?

“Chapter 11: The Heiress” introduced our helmeted protagonist to a Clone Wars graduate: Lady Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) of Mandalore. Mando aids Kryze and her team in a small mission to capture weapons for an eventual assault on Mandalore to reclaim the Darksaber—and the planet—from Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito). But, Kryze has twice led the Mandalorian people, once in Clone Wars and again in Rebels—both of which occurred before The Mandalorian. Will she be the one to defeat Gideon, or will Mando step into that role?

2) What Is Ahsoka Tano’s Role?

While she has yet to appear, it has been confirmed that Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), Anakin Skywalker’s former apprentice, will make her live-action debut this season. Now, obviously, she’s my favorite character, and Ahsoka also led the Siege of Mandalore during the Clone Wars, which explains why Bo-Katan told Mando to find her. However, as Tano’s no longer a Jedi, will she be able to help Baby Yoda or just send Mando on another quest?

3) What is the Endgame for Gideon’s Project?

In “Chapter 12: The Siege,” we are introduced to the idea that Gideon wanted Baby Yoda as a Force-sensitive blood donor for what looked like a cloning process. Which begs the question: Could Baby Yoda be the key to how we get Supreme Leader Snoke and, eventually, the resurrected Emperor Palpatine, in the sequel trilogy? Or is this an entirely different project, like the old Force-powered Dark Troopers from Legends?

4) WTF Happened to Boba Fett?

“Chapter 9: The Marshal” introduced Cobb Vanth (Timothy Olyphant), a character from a recent Star Wars novel, to the live-action canon. Vanth was in possession of Boba Fett’s (Temeura Morrison) armor after Fett’s run-in with the Sarlacc in Return of the Jedi. But, after the end of the episode suggested that the legendary bounty hunter is indeed alive…we ain’t heard shit since. What gives? Will he meet Mando at all? And how did he lose his armor?

5) Is Cara Dune’s Alderaan Connection Trivial or Important?

At the end of “Chapter 12,” we learn that Cara Dune (Gina Carano) is originally from Alderaan, the homeworld of Princess Leia Organa that was destroyed by the Death Star in the original film. This seemingly motivated her to join the Rebellion against the Empire. But is this just an Easter Egg? Or will this make her an important player down the road?

This week’s episode, “Chapter 13: The Jedi,” will probably answer at least one of the questions on this list. But what outstanding questions do you have? Let us know!
